We pray for the earth in acknowledgement of God’s love for all creation and because we pray for what we care about and care about what we pray for.
Here are two prayers that you might like to use:
O God, in love you created us
and in your grace you sustain us.
We thank you for all in creation
that provides for our needs,
for all that is pleasing to our senses,
for all that is part of the web of life on planet earth.
Help us to use wisely the resources of this earth:
to be willing to share and co-operate with others,
to say no to greed, to pursue peace in all our relationships,
to cherish all that your hands have made.
So may the future of your creation be ensured,
that the earth may not only endure
but flourish to the glory of your name.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Help us today Lord
to tread lightly upon the good earth,
to value every part of your creation,
to do good and not harm to our neighbour,
to consider carefully what is truly needed for this day’s tasks
and to never needlessly waste the riches of your creation.
