"The heavens are the heavens of the Lord, but the earth he has entrusted to his children"
Book of Psalms
“We are all now alive to the impact different aspects of our personal and corporate lifestyles are having on the environment. However, sometimes it’s hard to know exactly what to do about it. The Diocesan Environmental Policy and the information in this booklet give churches the opportunity to work through how we might live differently, reduce the negative impact on the world around us and model something godly in our communities. I commend you to take advantage of them and start to change the way we live and work as churches.”

In 2007 the Bristol Diocesan Synod adopted a diocesan environmental policy (download it here). It commits the Diocese to seriously addressing the challenges of climate change and to considering the impact of our actions on the environment, both as individuals and as churches. It is recognised that we have disregarded the long-term consequences of our actions and we need to renew our connection with the natural world. Our aim, therefore, is to reduce our carbon emissions by a minimum of 10% every three years. We need to act positively to effect change – and we need to do it now, before it is too late.
These Environment pages on the ISR web site will develop with time to contain a range of resources, ideas, prayers and other features.
Much of this work comes from a commitment from the Anglican Diocese of Bristol. ISR continues to work in partnership with the Diocese. However, of course, the environment is larger than any single denomination and so swe encourage all people of all denominations to engage in this process and use these resources.
